TIME-BASED WORKS BY
FRANK HEATH AND ERIC ATWOOD
in conjunction with As Loud as the Sky and Pasture: new work by Brendan Meara and Jules Hearne

Sat, Dec 15, 6 - 8p
Paragraph / 23 East 12th
free and open to the public

Frank Heath’s “Morningside Park” (2007) is a disembodied slide lecture made with and transmitted over a vintage Wollensak presentation unit from the late 1960’s. The device, housed in a suitcase, synchronizes the playback of an audiotape with a series of 35mm slide projections. Throughout the presentation, a narrator describes, in absurd detail, images of various detritus found throughout the park. Frank Heath received a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2004 and an MFA from Yale University in 2006. Frank is a current resident of New York City.

Eric Atwood, a 2003 Kansas City Art Institute graduate in Photo/New Media, who has exhibited his films in festivals internationally, presents two short films, “Between Games” and “Help Your Self.” Between Games (USA), 2006, 8 minutes, is about a gamer’s obsession, which leads to the destruction of what he loves. Help Your Self, (USA), 2007, 13 minutes, is about a salesman’s constant need for improvement to become something more than he is; this misguided salesman loses himself in the world of self?-help. Carnal Torpor hosts
MANAFEST: THE WINTER SOLSTICE

la Esquina / 1000 W 25th
Sat, Dec 22, 6:08 am - midnight
free and open to the public

It is astronomically inevitable and geographically correct that on December 22, 2007, artist collective Carnal Torpor will host MANAFEST: THE WINTER SOLSTICE within a new iteration of the CalmDome at La Esquina.

Beginning at 6:08 AM and continuing each hour until midnight, the solstice will be celebrated in a multitude of transdenominational forms, taking on abstractions of all types. There will be ritual feasting, gift giving, light therapy, caroling and a guided meditation upon the omni-point perspective embedded within the sacred geometry of the Metatron's Cube. There will be performances of both formal compositions and spontaneous revelations by numerous participants. A 20 foot diameter geodesic model of the CalmDome containing an interior tent structure held in tension within will be the stage for the activities.

For more information about MANAFEST, the CalmDome, and Carnal Torpor, visit www.calmdome.com/overmind.
